Recording Stage Durations for Business Process Flow

I have been tasked with measuring my team's sales BPF, part of that includes figuring out the average duration of each stage of the process. I know that when I've looked for information in the past regarding the topic of stage duration timers every answer has been several years old so I was hoping that there were some new options instead of building an automated flow triggered by the stage transfer.
