Job Queue not respecting Priority field in NAV 2017?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We use job queue entries extensively and a key feature we utilize is the Priority for a job queue entry.  Before upgrading from Nav 2016 to Nav 2017, a Job Queue Entry with a lower Priority value would run before one with a higher Priority value assuming it was the same Job Queue Category.

Not it appears that this is not the case.  In testing it appears that sometimes it works and sometimes it does not.  It leads me to believe that the Priority field is now ignored.

Does anyone have any insight into this?  Is it a bug or should I be using a different strategy for queueing jobs based on a priority?

Hello Maneesha, the Priority field is in the table, but not on the card.  Also, there is no use of the Priority field in any of the Job Queue Entry's keys.  Looking at the base nav2017 code, I don't see the Priority in any key of that table either so I'm guessing that either Microsoft missed this, or they decided not to support it.

I did do a quick look at the job queue related codeunits and it seems to me that the actual Tasks that are generated from Job Queue Entries might be done so outside the C/AL code.  If so, this would mean that I can't code a work-around either.

Hello Tatiana, that link you reference is for nav 2016, not 2017 - it did work in 2016.  I can't seem to find a page for 2017 yet.  In 2017 the Priority field isn't on the page, but it is still in the table.  I'm wondering if this is their way of phasing this functionality out.
