Hi,
Do you know the purpose of this journal type? Is is related with the use of statistical accounts to track non financial information or is it related with cost accounting? When would you use this journal type?

This is from cost accounting module and remains there for cost accounting report. This type of journal is posted for cost transaction when we want to use statistical dimensions .
Statistical dimensions are dimensions in cost accounting which are not part of accounting or financial transactions but we want to use for out cost accounting calculation.

Yes that's correct, We can use statistics type to track employee headcount by department on monthly basis or any non financial activity. For example we book June salary expense in actual GL account and we can store employee headcount of June in statistics account and then divide GL salary account to statistics account to calculate average salary of an employee. Hope you get an idea.
