Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Archived)

Archiving Database of Navision 2009

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We are using Navision 2009 Classic and we are thinking of archiving our database so that transactions/information that is before 2014 we will archive it from the live database - to help with the performance of the live database and more manageable.

We have thought of doing this:

1. Create a new database base copy as the "read-only" archive for future access

2. Delete Sales Header/Line, Purchase Header/Line (obsolete for more than 3 years) from the live database to compact the size for performance.

If we do it this way, is there any concern for the live database regarding data integrity with this approach?

What is the more common approach for archiving data for Navision 2009 or is there any archiving tool that we can use for Navision 2009 that is out there from 3rd party ?

Before deleting you need to look out for your reports which are based on these table.

We started to use the Data Deletion >>> Sales Documents >>> Delete Archive Sales Quote Versions and Delete Archive Sales Order Versions.

We will be working on the Purchase Documents to Delete the Archive Purchase Quote Versions and Delete Archive Purchase Order Versions.

Yes, that is what we are thinking. Our Database is quite big about 163499984 KB

We have about 1,702673 records of the Closed Sales Header/Sales Line and Closed Purchase Header/Purchase Lines.

Are you planning to delete posted sales/purchase orders headers and lines? How big is your data actually - how many records those tables have?

No, we have not done it yet and is looking into it. Our NAV has a lot of modification - we are trying to find other ways to archive our closed sales order and closed purchase order which is not standard.

Will keep you posted on what we will do.
