Printing reports from D365 F&O in batch mode and saving them as PDF

ReportReport

Hi Everyone,

We need to print reports in batch mode and save them as pdfs.

As an example, I am printing customer account statements for my 1000 customers, and since it takes time I want to leave it in the batch running mode.

I have set up the print destination as a file and provided a file name. I am expecting this report may be stored somewhere for me to see when the batch job finishes up. In a non-batch mode, I see this in my downloads folder. I tried checking in the devmachine folders to see if it is stored somewhere in the server. Any inputs on this are appreciated, Thanks.

You can not store it at specific path in local directory in a cloud world . You can download it/ send to user  by saving it in blob / archive.  take a look at example from below link.

    Hi Santosh,

Can see that the save in print archive check box is set to enabled. Therefore; you can set the print destination as "Print archive". Once the report is generated, then it will be stored in the Organization administration > Inquiries and reports > Print archive.

Now from "Print archive", you can simply download the file in pdf form.

    Hi Santosh,

There is no standard way to store reports from the cloud to your local file folder. However, this can be achieved using custom code where you can explore SRSPrintDestinationSettings and PrintJobHeader classes. For customer account statement you need to use CustAccountStatementExtController and CustAccountStatementExtContract classes along with to get this working.

Give a try and let me know if that helps.

As mentioned by others, the batch can't write to your local folder. You must remember that the actual D365FO app runs in the cloud. If the batch could save to your local folder, it would mean that anyone could access your local folders from public internet. And luckily that's not possible :)

You can use the print archive as the destination.

    Hello everyone,

I want to clarify that my intention is not that the report to get saved in my local folder. Perhaps if the batch can  store the reports somewhere in the server folders or may be into any cloud storage to which the permission be explicitly granted, that would be perfect.

Just take the case...I am printing customer account statement for 1000 customers and when I print this in non-batch mode, I get a zip folder with 1000 files download in my local computer. But to do the same through batch mode, the only option I see for now is, going to print archive and downloading 1000 statements one by one.

I didn't find any official information that says printing reports in batch mode and getting them saved somewhere is not possible in D365 F&O.

    Hello Damon Wei,

Can you elaborate what problem you have exactly?

Is it identical to the one that Santosh described?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Thanks for you reply Dr. Ludwig Reinhard. My problem is that Dynamics 365 on-premise print one report to generate Excel file will be take about 30 minutes, most of the time, the website need to be refresh, and then the Excel file lost, I don't find it. So I try to using batch job run the report, when the task ended, I still can't find the Excel file. could you help to give me some advice?
