Item coverage to set days cover

Hi All,

How can I set days cover in item coverage? eg: I want to have stock to cover 14 days cover of demand. Please see below for illustration

Current setup:

Coverage code: Period

Coverage period: 14

Positive days: 14

Reference | Requirement date | Req. Quantity | Accumulated

On hand | 19-Nov | 97 | 97

Demand forecast | 22 Nov | -50 | 47

Planned transfer | 29 Nov| 83 | 130

Demand forecast | 29 Nov | -60 | 70

Demand forecast | 6 Dec | -70 | 0

Planned transfer |13 Dec | 170 | 170

Demand forecast | 13 Dec | -80 | 90

Demand forecast | 20 Dec | -90 | 0

....

Question:

On 29 Nov planned transfer generated to cover future 2 weeks demand (29 Nov & 13 Dec). Problem is it generated every 14 days.

I expect to have another planned transfer on 6 Dec, to cover 6 Dec & 13 Dec demand (instead of waiting stock become 0 on 13 Dec) then another planned transfer on 13 Dec to cover 13 Dec & 20 Dec demand.

I already tried all of the coverage setting, but still cant find the correct one. Can someone help me with the setup to get what I expect?

    Thanks for the insight.

    Yes, to get planned order to cover next 14 days demand every 7 days I need to change my weekly forecast format becomes bi-weekly forecast. This is not feasible since it will be affecting all to the reporting format within my organization. But thanks, at least now I understand how MSD logic to do supply planning.

    I am suggesting you add additional safety/admin lead time to the normal lead time.

    I.e. you don.t know the quantity of safety stock you need because tis dynamic - but you want it received in advance of planned use so LT is the way to do it - you will have to try different combinaitons of LT, period durations and forecast demand windows.

    If you forecast in weekly buckets, it will show the demand due date as two weeks earlier i.e. anything in the enxt 14 days will be due to day so your weekly planned order for this week will then plan correctly for this week to cover the next 14 days

    Hi Magic1949,

    I have set my forecast in weekly buckets & coverage period 7 days.

    It suggests me planned order every 7 days to cover next 7 days forecast.

    I expect to have planned order every 7 days to cover next 14 days forecast, how can I set that?

    Lead time logic and set is already correct, I dont think I can change this setup.

    My stock point location lead times are varies, from 1 days to 28 days lead time.

    Read my last reply re safety lead time and put your forecast in weekly buckets and you policy as Period, of 7 days

    Hi Qian,

    I am working with a lot of SKUs & stock point locations, it is very difficult to define all minimum stock of each SKU at each stock point. We maintain sales forecast then expecting system to generate the supply requirement to cover the forecast for next xx days.

    Based on my example above, when I set coverage period 14 days - it gives me planned orders to cover future 14 days demand but planned orders every 14 days.

    How can I have planned orders to cover future 14 days demand, but the planned orders come every 7 days - So the stock doesn't become 0.

    Appreciate your help.

    The coverage policy of period does not work the way you seem to expect.

    it  will look ahead as far as the coverage fence,

    within that fence the system looks at the first day on which it sees there is an unsatisfied demand.

    It then has to decide how big an order to plan, and then to do that it looks at the coverage policy, when that is period,  it looks forward at all supplies and demands in that coverage period number of days and buckets together that net quantity as a planned supply based on that first demand date and the lead time, it will then take into account any planned residual stock a the end of that coverage period e.g. due to pack size, or minimum order, or safety minimum, then and  look forward to the next unsatisfied demand , which is when the next coverage period starts.    

    So today I  may have plenty of stock to satisfy all known demand in the system for 6 weeks, then there is insufficient to meet a demand, so the system looks forward 14 days from there. Then the same logic is repeated.

    it might be easier for you to work with safety 14 days extra safety lead time rather than safety minimum ie. to plan to receive stock 14 days before needed.

    Hi erlangga.mohamad,

    What is your most fundamental need? Don't want stock to become 0? If so, you can set a min/max stock for the item.

    You want a planned transfer order on 6 Dec to cover 6 Dec & 13 Dec demand, so transfer values calculated on 13 Dec based on existing stock and demand will be the same as the demand on 20 Dec.
