Export to Excel feature Generates error Excel.exe - System Error when logged in as non-admin user

We are using Dynamics AX 2012 R3 as a published app from a RDS server. We are running Microsoft Office 2016 64-bit and the Microsoft Dynamics Office Integration components (64 bit) on Local Computers. This setup seems to work fine if you log onto the local PC as an administrator. Can launch AX published app, and can successfully export data to Excel on client PC. However, when a standard user logs in, non-admin on local PC, the export to Excel generates an error, "Excel.exe - System Error The program can't start because VCRUNTIME140.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." Once you click "OK" on the error, Excel crashes - "Microsoft Excel has stopped working".

The DLL is not missing and Export to Microsoft Excel works as expected when logged in as a local admin on the PCs.

How do I make this work without making everyone a local administrator on their PC?

Have the users do a File-> Tools -> Options -> General tab -> Miscellaneous fast tab, set the "Remote desktop exports to" to "Server Excel" and have them input the path to their "My documents" on their machine.  You'll need to have Excel installed on the AOS / terminal server they are logging into.  Play around with it a bit, but it should work to your expectations.

We've had issues where the Excel add-in needs reinstalling depending on the user logged in. in Add/Remove programs the software shows as installed, but would not work until it was re-installed as the logged in user.

Not sure if the users are local admins though.

We were debating on this this issue when we 1st implemented, whether to install a server copy or just have AX launch a local copy on client PC. To keep things clean on the server, and take advantage of all the licensed copies of Excel on client PCs, we went with the 2nd option. We were quite happy with the results, but I am a domain admin and have admin rights everywhere, and most of the implementation team are local admins on their PCs. As soon as we logged in as a standard user, we experience this issue, just not sure where and what I need to assign rights to, to make this work without everyone being admin. If this can not be fixed and is our only option, I might do as you suggest.

No, our regular users are not admins. I tried to reinstall logged in as the user, just prompts for the admin credentials to uninstall/reinstall, which I did. Reinstalled with Admin credentials while logged in as the user....no joy when the user tried the Export to Excel feature.
