How to view code in managed host Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Frameworks.Controls.KanbanControls.KanbanSchedule.KanbanJobScheduleBoard

Hi,

I have 2 questions.

I have to add an additional code to

Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Frameworks.Controls.KanbanControls.KanbanSchedule.KanbanJobScheduleBoard .

1. Does Microsoft allows us to change the code in system level DLLs.? Does Microsoft follows layer hierarchy in this too?

If code can be changed, to do that which decompiler is best to use?

My google search result gives me an option of either ILSpy or MSIL Decompiler to use in visual studio.

2. But from Dynamics AX perspective, which one is best to use?

Is there any tutorial related to this , which can help developers in achieving the task?

Thanks,

Lakshmi

    1. No, Microsoft don't provide source code for such DLLs. You also can't change assemblies signed by other companies. Maybe you could use the board in your own user control.

Using a decompiler, you could copy code of the standard control and extend the copy, although it's a kind of grey zone from legal perspective (usually all decompiling is forbidden by license agreements).

ILSpy is nice and open source; you can also try RedGate Reflector and Telerik JustDecompile.

    2. No, there are no tutorials from AX perspective, because decompiling WPF controls isn't really related to Dynamics AX.

    Hi,

I couldn't understand what you meant by "Maybe you could use the board in your own user control.". Could you elaborate it?

If I can copy the standard control and extend the copy, will I have a ability to alter the code or should I  strictly not do it?

What are the alternate ways in which we can change the execution of the managedhost form control?

In KanbanJobScheduleBoard, when we click on a job, it is showing the details of a job instead user wants it to be a mouse hover information.

Are there any other ways to achieve this?

    Thanks,

    Lakshmi

I suggest you use a search engine to find more information about developing WPF controls. Here is just one example: WPF - Custom Controls. If needed, ask in a forum about WPF.

(Note that I'm only assuming that the board is written in WPF; it could use Windows Forms instead).

    Thanks Martin.

I will do search engine and will try to achieve the task using WPF - Custom Controls.
