I am about to upgrade our on-premise CRM 2011 to 2016. I went through all the steps of migration, 2013 --> 2015 --> and finally 2016. On 2013 and 2015 I did nto care much about it all. I just installed SQL + CRM and restored the databases of my 2011 organizations. After I have imported theses DB's for new organizaitons in 2013 and 2015 I just went quickly through them afterwards. There are a few JS errors on pages here ant there, but I will take care about them once my migratoin to 2016 is done.
What I am a bit concerned of it reporting. I have not yet installed SRSDataConnector yet. Actually, I tried to install it but during the installation process I get an error like "Install exception.System.Exception: Action Microsoft.Crm.Setup.SrsDataConnector.AddBindingRedirectForRdlHelper failed. ---> System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path 'c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS13.SQL_CRM2016\Reporting Services\ReportManager\web.config'."
I see that the path "c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS13.SQL_CRM2016\Reporting Services\ReportManager\web.config" does not exist indeed. The folder ReportManager is not there.
Now, I have to admit that I am running on Windows 2016 and SQL 2016 Std. But on this page I have see that SQL 2016 is supported for CRM 2016 if CU2 is installed for SQL 2016. And I have modified ReportingService ports from 80 to 8080 and 443 to 4443. Both run on the same server, I guess this is not a perfect scenario?
On the other hand I am not sure if I even need SRS because here, it states "Dynamics CRM 2011 comes with 54 predefined reports out of the box; 25 of them are main reports and 29 are subreports. If for some reason you don't see any report as shown in the following screenshot, it means Dynamics CRM 2011 Reporting Extensions were not installed." (OK, they talk about 2011 but it should apply to 2016 too. And I do see these reports in my CRM. Now, do I need SRS or not? What we do is to load rdl files generated with ReportServer into CRM as reports.
My questions are:
1. when are CRM Reporting Extensions required and when not? Why do I already see the build-in reports on my vanila organizatioin on CRM 2016, even though my reporting service extensions seem to not be installed? But I have ot admint that some cannot be displayed, though. Is this maybe because of the missing reporting service extensions? Actually I don't think so, I feel like if install a full CRM server, SRS is also installed, since if I choose to install SRS separatelly, it prompts me to unistall or repair it.
2. can anyone tell me what's wrong with the setup error mentioned above?
