Requirement is: In a tab page, user will need to upload a Pdf file. That particular file will be printed as a report, with a "Width" and "Height" specified by user before printing it.
Question is: Once a PDF file is uploaded, where can we store that file in d365fo?Can we create a table and store it in a container?
I think you should use document attachement https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/fin-ops/organization-administration/configure-document-management
I'm trying to achieve as following:
I have added a menu item button as "Attach file" which once clicked, takes to a dialog form showing browse and upload option. (I have used "File upload" control in the form)
Once a pdf file is uploaded, I want a form that displays name of the file and shows a preview of the file uploaded.
That is, how can I achieve storing the pdf file in d365fo and show it in a form? goshoom
I have checked "Docuview" standard form. I want something similar to it.
Mariano suggested using document attachements. Please react to it and tell us whether you can use it or not. If you can, stop trying to do something similar, because you won't need a custom solution at all. If you can't use it, please explain your requirements that prevent you from doing it.
As Mariano suggested, it is document management where file is being stored in Azure storage.
But my requirement is to store the uploaded file within d365 and not on Cloud storage like Azure or share point.
Can you explain the reason for this requirement? What business benefit does it have to violate Microsoft recommendations and bloat up the transactional database with files? How does your business case differ from document attachments?
Hi
The requirement of storing the pdf file in azure using document handling is fine.
Now, the uploaded pdf file, needs to be previewed in a button : "Print preview" with the specified width and height that the user enters.
How can we extract the pdf file from Azure and "Print preview" it with the dimensions mentioned. Is that possible?
Note: The requirement do not want to download the file.
You said you already have checked DocuView with this preview functionality. Is there something in particular that isn't clear to you?
DocuView preview functionality is clear to me. I need the preview similar to SSRS reports 'print preview' functionality.
Once, the "Print preview" button is clicked, it should preview the PDF uploaded as per the width and height mentioned.
If you don't want to use any existing functionality, then you can create your own control for this purpose. Doing it from scratch would likely mean a lot amount effort, including (I assume) C# and JavaScript development. I'm not sure that you're ready do invest time and money to it.
You can also look if someone doesn't offer a similar web control that you could wrap in a custom control in F&O.
If I was you, I would look again at what users actually need and designed a solution that can be done more easily in F&O. For example, I would challenge the idea that users can choose any dimensions, because it makes things more complex and the value of it is questionable.
