SaaS - Extension installations and Updates take a very long time

Hi,
 
We have migrated one of our client from Nav 2018 to BC SaaS recently.
We started fresh which means that not a lot of data was brought over and the database is fairly small at the moment.
They do have almost 175 companies, which should be find as the limit is currently 300
 
However, installing a PTE extension that contains 40 tables and 75 tables extensions takes anywhere between 30 minutes and 1h, which is quite long from my experience.
We do have multiple clients but this is the first one with that many companies.
Installing the next major update since the migration took 8 hours.
 
Is this considered "normal"
Anything that can be done to optimize those processes?

    Yes this is normal in BC SaaS with many companies. Extensions are installed and upgraded per company, so with ~175 companies your PTE (40 tables + 75 table extensions) is effectively processed 175 times, which explains 30–60 minute installs and multi-hour major upgrades. There’s no SaaS setting to speed this up; the only real optimizations are reducing table/table extension count, splitting functionality into smaller extensions, and keeping OnInstall/upgrade logic minimal. It’s not related to database size or migration quality—just how SaaS works today.

    Is there a lot of code in the Install/Upgrade Codeunit?
    Generally, the installation process itself shouldn't take that long.

    As you mentioned, you upgraded a customer with 175 companies.
     
    What is the database size and specially what are no. of records in tables where you have table extension and tables.
     
    Those insights will help to understand root cause of issue.

    Saurav.Dhyani we did upgrade them from Nav2018 but we started fresh, we didn't bring any historical data, just opening balances and master data
    Database is only 60GB
     
    It is fairly small, just a lot of companies

    Will this problem occur if only one "Hello World" extension is deployed?
    If this is also a problem, it is recommended to submit it to Microsoft and ask them to assist in the investigation.

    The Hello World app is installing fast (this what we use to debug)
    But there is only 1 page extension in it.
    The issue is the validation of 40 tables + 75 table extensions in 175 companies.
