GP 18.3 and Modern Authentication - Exchange Log On Pop up

Please advise on this. The GP Version is 18.3 and it should support Modern Authentication. MFA is not enabled for the email account. There is no "Application (Client) ID" entered in the "Company E-mail Setup" Window. When we try to send Customer Statements, it pops up "Exchange Log On" Window. We can enter password and continue to send email statements. However, does it mean it is still using Basic Authentication? Do we have to enter "Application (Client) ID" to enforce Modern Authentication even if we are not using MFA?

While the conversation is the same - the DATES are critical.  As of the end of October 2022 Microsoft disabled all Basic Auth and so regardless of the MFA status we have found the only solution to be (1) create the App ID in Azure and (2) enter the APP ID in Gp.  Then you will be asked to login, but from then on - it should - work (as for 4 of 5 clients since the end of October 2022.

RE: GP 18.3 and Modern Authentication - Exchange Log On Pop up

    Good morning, all.

I am on GP 18.4.1436 and do not have modern auth enabled and I am getting the Exchange login with Basic Auth.  However, the Login is failing and the reply to field is grayed out on the email message setup.

This is causing and error in the generation of the email as the Reply to is seen as blank.

    Anyone faced this issue?

    That is correct..

As long as you're not enabling MFA on the O365 account, you don't need the Application ID, you still have to authenticate every time against MSOE (Microsoft Online Exchange) when you start a new GP session.. The O365 credentials are not stored anywhere permanently and get lost when you close GP.

I believe you still have to logon against O365 when using MFA in GP, but it's been a while I haven't used that option.

The steps to enable MFA are all described here in details: docs.microsoft.com/.../multi-factor-authentication

Thank you for you reply. The exact build is 18.3.1173. I also tested in another newer environment with GP 18.4.1384. I got similar result, if the App ID is not entered, it pops up the "Exchange Log on" Window. The Documents and Videos says we have to use App ID if we use MFA, they are not exactly specific for cases where we don't use MFA. The "Exchange Log On" Window works okay as of now with no MFA, but I wonder if that is will fail after Oct 1, 2022 after the Basic Authentication is disabled.

    No App ID:

    Exchange

    With App ID:

    Exchange

    Hi DinB,

What is your exact build of GP 18.3.xxxx ?

If you don't enable MFA on the O365 account that is used in GP to send e-mails, GP will use the regular protocol to connect, though it will be the Modern Auth method on TLS 1.2.

If you enable MFA, you'll have to create an Application ID to configure your GP for that purpose. Everything is described in the document you can find online here : community.dynamics.com/.../dynamics-gp-and-modern-authentication
