    Hi lally,

This question has already asked several times before.

Please have a look at the following threads and websites that explain things

    Hi lally,

Kernel version is a version of binaries and Application is version of x++ code, they could be different in case you installed binary hotfix. Please refer to this blog post for additional details blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../faq-microsoft-dynamics-ax-kernel-hotfixes

There is an answer on your question in the article from my previous post, but if you don't want to read it let me quote it for you

Q8: Is it supported to have a different kernel and application build?

YES, it is supported to have different builds for the application and the kernel BUT… they must be for the same version and service pack level.

Our Product Group ensure that dependencies between the application and kernel are not introduced when creating AX hotfixes. Dependencies between the application and kernel builds can only be introduced in a new product version and a new service pack (NOT in a rollup/cumulative update).

We also recommend having a kernel build that is the same or higher build than the application build. Applying a kernel update is normally a simpler process than updating the application code, so in the case of applying a cumulative update it makes sense to apply the kernel part of the update as well as the application part. This also ensures that you get the full benefit from any hybrid fixes, which as mentioned above require updates in both the kernel and application to function fully.

In simple terms ...i want to know what would be the impact if the values does not match ?

hm, I'm not really sure that my terms would be simpler. Kernel hotfix updates binaries of AOS service. There could be a bug like memory leak or something else that could cause a crash. To fix it you will have to install kernel hotfix and it will obviously update kernel version.

From another side you can have a bug in x++ code that could be fixed by application hotfix. Different version of application and kernel is usual situation because you have more bugs in x++ code and install hotfixes often.

As this article mentioned you may have some issues if you would install Application and Kernel from different product versions because they could have dependencies but generally it's not an issue and I have never seen one.

    Hello lally,

Is there anything left unanswered from your side?

Otherwise it would be great if you could verify and close this thread.

    Many thanks,

    Ludwig
