Change Item group from WIP to Finished Good

Dear all,

Is there any possible issue if I change item code from WIP to Finished Good because Sales side want to sell this item to customer. Is the any problem in posting or reporting? I try to generate Sales Order until shipped out and no issue but I afraid when finance post to general ledger got issue there. Please advice.

    Hi,

    If only 6 items are needed then I would suggest that you do this change manually.

    This should be much faster than trying to create some code.

    I see. How many items need to be changed? If only a couple of items (<100) need to be changed you might be faster doing the change manually.

    Dear Dr. Ludwig,

    Thank you for your comment. Appreciated it! For your info, unfortunately our customer don't want to change the item code. They insist to use the same code. We cannot do anything else they don't want to purchase with us. Do you have any ideas or suggestions on how can I do with this code so that it will not cause any troublesome in the future. Or can you tell me what are the possible outcome if I insist to post by WIP item group and what are the possible outcome if I change the item group to Finished Good.  Thank you!

    Hi,

    Changing the item group is possible. When doing that you will get a warning message that this might result in reconciliation issues. That is, if you have already transactions posted for this item, your inventory balances shown in the general ledger might get messed up.

    If you have already transactions recorded for this item it might be better creating a new item rather than making such kind of changes to an existing item.
