101 question about access to modules, via custom role/duties

Hi, reeealy basic question, as I try to grasp how D365 F&O works.

I've been reviewing some training on security, but it's just not clear to me how to do the following.

I wanted to see if I could create my own role, then a duty, then see if I could assign privileges such that a user could see All  of the

customers in the A/R module.

What I've done so far:

1) Created a role

2) Assigned da new duty to above role(using "Create new and add reference")

So, from here I'm confuse das to how I  tie together a particular module to my duty..

I tried to go to the A/R module, and looking at "All customers", I looked at "Options",  then "Security diagnostics".. thinking

that I might be able to associate that form to a role, but I don't see that as a possibility..

Am I even remotely close to how I would allow a new role to see All Customers in the A/R module?

Any help/direction is greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Rich

    Hi Rich,

When you have created the new privilege, select the menu item type which is 'display menu item' in about 85% of the cases. Then click add reference and search for the required menu item. When opening a list page from the main menu, the menu item name is listed in the URL as the value for the 'mi' parameter. Other referenced forms, opened from the list page will not be visible in this way. Then you can right-click on the form. You will get a context menu with a form name and a value. If you click on this, a slider form will be opened where you can find the menu item name for this form.

When you have added the menu item to the privilege, you can select the desired access levels. When you are ready, you have to publish the security changes and after that you can assign the role to a user and test it.

Ok, so I already had a duty(JAX_RICH_SEE_ALL_AR_CUSTOMERS) assigned to my role.

I clicked the Duty, then "Privileges", then chose, "Create new and reference"

    I named it: "JAX_RICH_SEE_ALL_AR_CUST"

Now, I can click the new priv, and I can see under "References", "Action menu items", "Display menu items", etc etc

From here, I'm lost as to how I associate a priv with my A/R customer list?

    :(

    I do appreciate your help..

    Hi Rich,

You need to add reference privileges to duty, then add duty to role.

Please donot forget to publish the update.
