Development Environment

Posted on by 35

So our CRM Admin has left the company, and we're not sure of the exact state of the Development Environment (This sounds like the start of a comedy blog..!)

We do have Dev/UAT/Prod environments, and everything is in one Solution on Dev. Ideally we'd validate/confirm that the Solution on Dev is the same as on UAT/Prod, so that any future updates wouldn't cause any adverse effects on Prod.

Has anyone had this same issue before?

Can I just export the Solution from Dev/Prod and compare them?

I've been asked to look into rebuilding Dev from Prod, but aren't really sure how to do this, or if it's possible.

Harjit Samra - In your both DEV and PROD you can check the solution history. That will give you complete trail of the customization deployment. To access please go to Advanced Settings and then click below option.

I'm not sure if the previous Admin incremented the version number during the Solution Export (I'm still waiting for access to PROD).

Also, it's possible that on Dev they may have customised objects in CRM, affecting items in the Solution.

    Hi,

If solutions deployed on Production is Unmanaged then you can restore your production instance backup to Dev  instance .

    docs.microsoft.com/.../backup-restore-environments

If solutions are deployed as Managed then it will be difficult to rebuild.

Please mark my answer verified if this is helpful!

Just check the version number for the Solutions in each of your environments to ensure they are the same
