Rename the AOS Server

(1) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 670

My client provided a server with a name they are no longer happy with; they want me to rename it but, I am guessing that this will break the AOS.

Has anyone done this and if so, what steps were necessary to successfully achieve this?

I'm wondering if I could just uninstall the AOS service, rename the server and reinstall the AOS, would that resolve the potential issues I foresee?

My guess is that I will have to go in and update some table(s) that reference the AOS  by server name.

I think you need to update the AOS server name in your AX client configuration after you update the name of your AOS server. Then, when you are going to open AX with new configuration, it will connect to the AOS on your newly renamed machine. You also need to change the report server settings to update the server name for AOS.

If you have multi server installation then it is quite simple

Change the AOS server name and just change the client configuration using new AOS server name

as I understand else other thing will work as usual

But if you have single server installation and you want to change the server name then

you need to take care of many thing

Please let us know what is your case

For safe side, you can take the business and model database backup before you are going to do anything. In this way, whenever your environment is up and running you can restore your environment with the last backup taken. Also, can you please confirm if this is the production AOS you are talking about or non- production?

First, this is test; they originally named the server AXSTAGE01 which a lobbied against and was overridden.

The system is test with the AOS, SharePoint, Reporting and Analysis services but, the SQL database is hosted on another server.

Baber, no major change should be attempted without a backup.

    I completely agree.

    Repare Sharepoint

Run SharePoint 2013 Product Configuration Wizard

    Delete Sharepoint Administrator IIS sites

    Restart the Server

    Install Dynamics AX EP

Update EP website details in Dynamics AX

Please verify and let me know if this helps you and you need more details

Based on input from another consultant on site; I have convinced the client that this is not something we want to do.

Your steps listed are about what I thought might be required although I'm also thinking there are some SQL updates that I might need to apply in order to get it to work.

Thank you for your input; I'm retaining this for my own knowledge center.
