Ok, I have a strange issue going on. In the process of building a brand new network, new servers, etc., we decided to use SL 2015 and not have to deal with Business Portal for SharePoint. I am running the machines on Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter with SQL Server 2014 Standard. All are up to date with patches. I have the Instance of Dynamics on a specific port (just like the current version).

After installing SL 2015, I open the Database Maintenance screen and enter my Alias for SQL Server. It connects immediately. But after waiting for the update databases, I get an error and refer to the DBBUild file which shows:

If I do Create New Databases, they are in SQL but the same error as above. Interesting part is in the Domain table, the ServerName column has SQLSERVERALIAS instead of the actual SQL Server and Instance.

If I try to use just the ServerName\Instance, I get Error -1:Failed to connect to server ServerName\Instance

I also tried running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard with the same results.
