Hi,

I'm using Dynamics Ax 2012 (I don't have data migration framework). I need to import the product master with variant, images, related product, file attachment, product prices and attributes via excel. Is there any way to import these data's into Ax 2012 via excel. Please guide me to do(Because I'm new to the data import to Ax via excel). Suggest me some links too.

I followed this link: http://ax2012exceldataimport.blogspot.in/2012/01/dynamics-ax-2012-products-import-using.html

It didn't help me for creating the variants, image, attributes, related products, product price. It guide me to create the basic product and the product master only.

I would suggest that you use DIXF (Data Import/Export framework) for importing product. Data import using Excel addin will be very cumbersome as there will be multiple tables that requires to be imported.

Excel add-in has limitations on importing multiple table data. But if you use the DIXF, you can use the default entity for importing data

    Hi Chandu,

Data import/export framework and data migration framework are same right?

If that is right, I have no option. I have to import only through excel. Give me some ideas.

    Hi Satish,

Data Import/Export Framework is the new name for Data Migration Framework. Why don't you have the option to download DIXF from the downloadable tools om LCS?

As Chandu mentioned it is too hard to achieve it using Excel.

Another option would be using an AIF service in combination with the Excel add-in.

    Hi Sathish,

Gosh, that is some challenge. I think Product Master with Variants and subsequent Released Product with Variants is something like 19 tables. That's without even thinking about images, attachments, prices and attributes.

If DIXF is really out of the question (and note, even DIXF doesn't do product variants without some customisation) I'd be wanting to use Atlas (by a company called Globe Software). They have a set of templates that you can use with Atlas and Excel which can be useful (even if you're only using the templates to work out what to import where, and in what order).

What ever route you take, one piece of advice would be to consider not importing the Released Products and its Variants. Once you get the Product Master in, you can Release it from within the AX Client which saves a chunk of the 19 tables I referred to.

As per my understanding its not possible to import at image using  excel add ins

you need to write some data import job to upload product image

and best way to all of this would be DMF

DMF provides all the necessary framework for data import and you only have to write logic

Please verify and update us if you need any technical support for DMF

    Hi Nitesh Ranjan,

Thanks for your suggestion, I installed the CU7 for dynamics Ax 2012 r2. Now I am able to import the product.

As of now I am able to import the products and product variant in Two different CSV's.

I have Two more question for you.

    1. Is there any way to import product and product variant in Single CSV.
    2. What about the product image and product attribute for products. Is there any OOTB feature for image and attributes?

Once again thanks for all your suggestion. It works perfectly for me.
