Work Order Characteristics --> Resource Requirement

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi All,

When associating Requirement Characteristics with a Work Order, shouldn't the Resource Requirement field be filled in automatically on the Requirement Characteristic record?

This means I can associate a Requirement Characteristic with a Work Order, but when I go to schedule that Work Order, the Characteristic isn't considered because I didn't manually select the Resource Requirement on the Requirement Characteristic record.

Am I missing something here or I'm really supposed to manually select the Resource Requirement corresponding to the Work Order?

Thanks

What you say is how it works in the current version of Dynamics 365.

Even I am supposed to manually select the Resource Requirement corresponding to the work order.

This should be automated in the coming versions of Dynamics 365 FS.

Currently, people are supposed to it manually.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for your answer!

I checked in the latest version and you are correct, the Resource Requirement field on the Requirement Characteristic Quick Create form is required now. It still feels clunky however because I can select ANY Resource Requirements. It does give me an error message when I try to save an invalid Resource Requirement - Work Order combinations.

I think it would be a lot more elegant if the Resource Requirement field on the Quick Create: Requirement Characteristic form was filtered to only show Resource Requirement records associated with the Work Order selected.

The Characteristics generally come form the Incident Type.  When you associate an incident type to a work order, that incident type can and typically determines the skills required to complete the job.  You can, however add a characteristic to a work order manually.  When you do that, at least in the current version, the Resource Requirement IS required.  Meaning - it will also associate that skill / characteristic to the Requirement.  I hope that helps.

Have tested this in my instance and agree with your POV. Have filed a ticket for my Engineering colleagues.
