Is it a custom field or standard field?
Please check if it is a dimension Code.
Go to General Ledger Setup and check in Dimensions Tab.
If it is a dimension then it might be coming from customer dimensions.

Its a field from the Base Application (ID 101) and is used for Intrastat function, it's a special feature in europe.

Could you share a screenshot of the field and its dropdown? To me, it sounds like a dimension on the header. If it is set up as mandatory, it will complain when you try to post it when leaving it blank. Otherwise, you could leave it as is.

Here is a screenshot. It not mandatory in the Sales Header but afterwards for some reports. So the idea is to fill the field from begining in the sales header.

From the documentation, this is set up on the customer card - Set up Intrastat reporting - Business Central | Microsoft Learn.

Not sure where it originally comes from, but the field later on seems to be saved in Item Ledger Entries table.
Area list can be created directly (just search for Area), but in Sales header and in Sales lines (same in purchases) the fields are hidden by standard.

Haven't yet found a way to get them filled in via standard methods. Checked Location code, Ship-to addresses, post codes, countries/regions - and nowhere Area can be attached to existing code.
In BC system at least the field can be added by users directly, but in NAV, a developer has to be asked to do that :)
