Storing additional data with a connection

In our industry and line of business we sell to both Vendors and Retailers. It is possible for a Retail to be a direct customer of ours and receiving our product through a vendor. What I would like to store additional info with certain types of connections without having to create intersection tables. Here's a simplified example where I'd like to store the RelationshipId that a vendor assigned a retailer. Is this something that is possible or am I going to be forced into creating an intersect table?
