How excel add-ins work for more then one worksheet in D365FO ?

Hi All,

 Hope you all are fine!!

Need your suggestions on excel add-ins,I want to export and publish different datasource/Dataentity data in different worksheets of Excel-Addins.

For this I have developed a new data entity "C" by combining 2 different data entities "A" and "B",now on clicking C data entity in "Open In Excel" option and after downloading I want two worksheets to be generated separately for A and B data entities  for publishing data on these sheets irrespective of each other.

Is it feasible in D365FO? If yes, please suggest me better options.

Thanks in advance!!!

Regards,

Aimon Fatima

    Hi Aimon,

You can create a new sheet then "add table" to get data.

    Hello Aimon Fatima,

If you have multiple worksheets and data that you need to upload, i would recommend using the data management workspace.

The excel addin does not seem to be the right tool here.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Thank you for your quick reply !!

I have gone through the link which you have shared. My objective is to create 2 worksheet automatically while opening the Excel add-ins . One for A data entity and another for B data entity.

Please suggest me to achieve this functionality.

    HI Aimon,

    Sorry for confusing you.

I understand your needs, and I have not seen any examples like this, waiting for other more experienced people to confirm the possibility.

But as Dr. Ludwig suggested, using Data Management is more suitable for you.

If you continue to use Excel Add-ins, then you need to manually add a new worksheet to obtain data from another entity.

    Thanks.

    Hi Aimon,

Your requirement can only be solved with a customization. When you go to Organization administration > Setup > Office integration > Excel workbook designer, you can select which entity and columns to create a new Excel sheet with the Excel add-in. You can have a look at the coding behind this. Then you might be able to create a second sheet and repeat the coding.

I have not done this myself. When required, I configured the Excel file like mentioned above by Blue Wang.

    Thanks for your reply!!!

Yes, you have suggested me right to use Data Management in this case. But user/client prefer Excel add-ins more as compare to Data management, if I'm not wrong performing import/export through excel add-ins is quite convenient as compare to Data Management.

So as per you suggestion, there is no such functionality in Excel add-ins.

    Thank you for your guidance..!!

no direct way of combining 2 entities in one Excel add in as it is always tied to one

With data management one gets more freedom with more tabs, more sheets, more data, more performance and much more...

Instead of using Excel Addin, you should use Data Management Workspace.

That works better than the Excel addin.

Excel Addin is just not the right choice for the process you want to do.
