Unexplained DB rollback?!

This is on a system running AX 2009 (no SP) and SQL 2008

A user was able to post 15 consecutive journals without receiving any errors but the journals were left open. I know that they were posted because an external system got updated. Before it attempts to update that system it makes sure that the journal has been posted and I also made sure that the ttsLevel is 0 at that time.

The only thing I could come up with is that the DB reverted back to a point in time because AX encountered a fatal error or SQL decided to revert back!? Neither of these two explanations is very likely in my mind, or has someone seen anything like that before. What could cause it? How to capture such an event? There was no indication of any issues in Event Viewer.

Other users AX clients were unresponsive during that time.
