Production orders go over to the next day

Hi All

We use Finite scheduling both on the Work Centres and on the scheduling screen.

If for instance we schedule two jobs 7.4 hours each and available capacity is 7.41 hours on both Day1 and Day2 AX would schedule first job to take 7.4 hours on Day1 and second - to take 0.1 hour of Day1 and it then schedule the remaining 7.39 hours on Day2.

Is there a way (except of changing available capacity on Day1 to exactly 7.4 hours) to restrict AX from splitting production orders between days.

Thank you!

Dmitry

    Hi Dmitry,

Have you tried individually scheduling the second job for the next day via the 'Schedule jobs' in the production header? Here, on the General tab, you can state the individual job and place it on a specified date e.g Day 2:

    Hope this helps

As a means of AX doing this automatically though i'm unsure of a feature which will do so, AX seems to want to make the most efficient use of all capacity possible

Thank you Thomas! This sounds like the best solution in this case. We will try to schedule jobs day by day rather then the whole week in one go to ensure nothing is going over into the next day.

You can also go into the Gantt chart and move it in the chart manually. A bit of percision is required, but you can Zoom by clicking the time header on the chart and i believe by moving the mouse right to left it will change the scale...

You can go into a single resource and select multiple work orders to align them correctly.

    Good luck.

Hi Fredrik. Thank you very much for this suggestion. I have tried it and I believe this would be the best answer to our problem!

Hi Dmitry - I wasn't ever able to find a simple way of doing this, so I logged a product suggestion a couple of years ago. I hope this link works for you (you may have to create a log-in):

    connect.microsoft.com/.../840189

And this one might be of use to you as well:

    connect.microsoft.com/.../657331

If you can access these, I suggest you leave a comment. I don't know if it's true but I'd like to think that an end user's suggestion carries more weight than a consultant's.

Thank you Tim! I have added my comment with the link to this thread on the page with your suggestion.

How did you end up resolving this problem for that user? Did you have to modify the system?
