Report of All Validation

Posted on by 5

Hello, friends!

I am not a Dynamics NAV user, but, I am a consultant trying to assist with some automation around it!

What I'd like to know is if there's a way to export any / all validation settings that are in use.

Here's my situation: client closely guards their Dynamics NAV (totally understandable), however, we are building automation that will provide further ways to validate information. We do not know for sure what is being handled in NAV, and what is not - so I am wondering if there is any way they can run a script or a process or ... whatever Dynamics users do... to provide us with a full listing of all modifications / validation / business rules being applied within their environment.

Thoughts? How would you handle this?

Thank you for any help you can offer, I really appreciate it.

Cheers,

Rhia

No there's no such report. You need to investigate the source code.

What you are actually asking for is a print-out of the source-code, or do I misunderstand?

If it's Dynamics NAV you are using, I presume C/SIDE is available. You can export all objects into a .txt file, and for example open that txt file in Prism:

    Both, ideally!

If there's a listing of the standard validation available online that I can review, that would satisfy one portion -- but I'd also need to see all the customizations!

To check the customizations you need to take the base version and compare with your modified version.

Unfortunately, there is no script to get all the validations but you can use the Prism Tool to check usages.

Are you referring to the standard validation or customizations done in the process?

    Hi,

what you can do is to activate the change log. This will track changes for the activated tables / fields when they are validated. This can be entered by hand or validated by code. What it does not track is changes by code which are just changed and not validated.
