Problems after 18.4.1384 Updates with GL Posting

Posted on by 45

Hello All,

Came to see if anyone had some insight into an issue we are having after a recent update. We had two main issues arise the first is that we have an in-house program for inventory that creates a batch in GP and then there is a third party program called postmaster the posts that batch in GP.  the problem is that the posting to the GL portion gets "Posting Interrupted" and we have to recover and post it manually. The Postmaster Program uses a GP account that has "Power User" privileges. If we run Postmaster with the SA account everything posts fine.

The second issue is with Payable batches that have inter-company payments in them. We have found that the few users with "Power User" permissions have posting issues but the users who have tailored permissions don't have the issue.

I guess this was a long way around of asking if anyone has ever seem something like this before? It seems like our "Power Users" are not so powerful. We have run the grant.sql on the companies.

Just want to give props to Andrew and Steve at Envisage. They helped with the issue which in all honesty was not there issue to fix. It was discovered that it was a GP Language issue.

The Messages table in the Dynamics Database no longer had Entries for Language_ID 0

So an automated process run with out the user actually being logged into a GP session for all companies involved in the transaction would run with Language ID 0.

Then we checked the MESSAGES table and could only see records where LANGUAGE_ID = 2

After running a script to replicate all records in MESSAGES with LANGUAGE_ID = 2, Post Master was able to post GL batches successfully.

Just to keep people updated on what we have found so far in case it happens to others. For the Postmaster issue it was not the SA/Power User like I first thought. It turns out for some still unknown reason the GP user that Postmaster is using has to be logged into a GP session / Company while the Postmaster is processing the batches. So the SA vs Postmaster User was just a coincidence as I had a GP session open as SA while testing Postmaster with SA creds.

Richard is right that you need to verify your add-ins are supported.

Did you run the security INSERT scripts when you upgraded?
I would also verify the database owner is correct and then run the grant.sql script.

I would check with the great folks at Envisage and see if there is newer version of Postmaster. As far as the user issues I would check the tasks under the tailored roles to see if there is something outside of GP that needs permissions.
