PO workflow - notification to originator

Hi all,

We're copy the PO workflow from NAV to BC.

In NAV:

When I create the same PO workflow in BC, there is no option 'Create notification to originator'.

Is there something I missed?

Thanks!

    Hello,

There might be a case you have not assigned Create a notification for %1 Permission in Workflow Event/Response Combinations page.

Then you can just assign the Response to your event. Make Sure you Assign it to Correct Event.

Hope this helps resolve your issue.

    Hello,

This is expected behavior and not something you missed. The Create notification to originator response that existed in older NAV versions is not available as a standard workflow response in Business Central. Microsoft has redesigned workflow notifications, and instead of that specific option, BC uses a more generic notification framework.

In Business Central, to achieve the same outcome (notify the requester/originator after approval), you must:

Use the Notify sender” / notification-related workflow responses
Ensure users are set up in Approval User Setup
Configure Workflow Notification Setup (email or internal notes)

Microsoft documentation confirms that notifications are now handled through workflow responses and user notification setup, rather than fixed options like in NAV

Hope this resources will help you!

    Hello,
in Business Central the old NAV response name “Create notification to originator” is basically handled differently: use a notification response and set Notify Sender in the response options, which changes the response to Create Notification for <Sender>; Microsoft also notes that for approval workflows you can add a response step to notify the sender when the request is approved or rejected. So you probably didn’t miss a separate option with the same NAV label — in BC, look for the notification response options, enable Notify Sender, and also make sure the originator has workflow notification setup/email setup, because workflow notifications are sent via job queue.
