Keeping dimensional data in ax (height/width/length)

Hello, for example I have a sheet of metal that has a a width of 1 meter, length of 2 meters and height of 0.02 meters. What's the best way to keep dimension data in ax?

1-Using size,color,style as width,lenght,height dimensions?

2-Using only the size dimension and keeping the data as 2x1x0.02 for example?

3-Keeping the data in item's name as string?

4-Or something completely different?

Also this item could be used in boms and might deplete depending on consumption in 2 dimensions (using a cnc machine to cut parts from sheet)

(height  will be obsolete)

Regards

    Dear Sin5k4,

If you are working for production company it will be better to keep all these in item description it will save your effort. If you have huge number of item based on these dimension and diff pricing for all then you can use all these in product dimension. Try to minimize the dimension based on to save data entry and other complexity if feasible.

If these are only the product characteristics meaning they will not impact the costing or consumption of the item in different BOMs on the basis of different dimensions (Height, weight, Length) and you also don't foresee this in future, then you can mention these on the Item Form > Manage Inventory > Physical dimensions.

But if you foresee that the item may follow different costing patterns based on dimensions and these dimensions vary  on item level, then you should maintaining them in Product dimensions for tracking the dimensional inventory as well.

Cheers, actually these dimensions affect costing and bom consumption,so the best way is to use dimensions i guess. What bothers me is just, i have to keep the irrelevant data in dimensions, such as keeping width in color dimension for example...

Well that's an issue and I don't know your product hierarchy but you can rename the product dimensions. This will change the display name i.e. color to height but if you this type of products are a smaller potion of your product base then it'll create the same ambiguity for other products requiring color as dimension.
