Add field to record link table in BC 14 on Prem

I have a client that has a customization to the system table /Record Link/. They have added a few new fields . I am trying to convert that customization to an extension, They will be on BC 14 on Prem.

When I create a table extension for that table, I get an error as soon a I enter the table name that the table can not be extended. I did some research and it seems like we can not extend that table as it is a system table. Has anyone come up with a work around ?

This client will add Links to the item and mark them as send to PO or sent to SO. If send to PO, when they print/email the Purchase order document, we are also printing/emailing the Record link PDF document for that item as it has some information related to the design of the item. Has anyone had a similar request and how have you re-designed it or made it work ?

Hi,

Yes, you cannot extend system tables.

You have to refactor the customization like -

1. Add a Subsidiary table connected to Record Link. (With primary key Link ID (From Record Link) and ID (type integer).

2. Using Events, you can manage when a new Record link is added, record get created in New Table and sets custom field as needed.

3. While trying to send email refer to custom table to review field values.
