Relation between DimensionAttributeValueSet and DimensionAttributeValueCombination

Hello folks,

May i have an advice, what is the relationship between table DimensionAttributeValueSet and DimensionAttributeValueCombination ?

Not fully understand this, but if I query my table from ProjInvoiceItem like this :

select b.* from PROJINVOICEITEM a 
join DIMENSIONATTRIBUTEVALUESET b on a.DEFAULTDIMENSION=b.RECID
where a.DEFAULTDIMENSION <> 0

and in this example I get 1 row which on its column there are this info:

BUSINESSUNIT	BUSINESSUNITVALUE
5637149830	100

How can I relate this to table DimensionAttributeValueCombination ?

Hi MedWong,

Could you please tell us your exact requirement? Using DefaultDimension you can get the individual dimension values from DimensionAttributeValueSetItem table.

Hi both,

Absolutely. So the background idea is I want to create a custom AggregateMeasure which includes that table ProjInvoiceItem (also actually CustInvoiceTrans). By this I want to get the invoices. These will be my Fact table.

On both of that two is only have Default Dimension.

So am I supposed to relate this field to DimensionAttributeValueSet or DimensionAttributeValueCombination ?

Reason to use DimensionAttributeValueCombination is only because I only able to find the Aggregate Dimension connect to that table, named DimensionCombination. And we should relate our fact table key to Aggregate Dimension, right?

Hi,

actually, these fields are not unique based on CustInvoiceTrans or ProjInvoiceItem. you must find another field/fields for matching.

As this is for Aggregate Dimension, actually it doesn't need to be unique, it will get the unique anyway (Distinct, for the technical term)

It just I need to find the relation key to table DimensionAttributeValueCombination.

However I might take wrong understanding on what you were meant.

Hi,

DimensionAttributeValueCombination contains ledgerdimension. you can use dimensionattributevaluesetItem table for defaultdimension. on dimensionattributevaluesetItem table, there is dimensionattributevalu field that you can use to filter your dimension.

Means to say, I cannot use DimensionAttributeValueCombination because there is no connection to DefaultDimension, am I right to say that ?

In the case that I cannot find Aggregate Dimension for DimensionAttributeValueSet, means I need to create it, right?

yes, there is no connection to DefaultDimension,

ınstead of DimensionAttributeValueSet, you must use DimensionAttributeValueSetItem.

This whitepaper was written for AX2012 and some code patterns had been changed in Dynamics 365. However, it has some data model visualizations at the end of the document which could be useful for you.
