How to reserve items as they come into stock

Hi,

We currently use the Release Sales Order Picking form to query for Sales Order Lines that have recently come into stock.  Then we go to that Sales Order Line and press Ctrl+S to "save" it so it reserves the quantity on that line.

Is there an easier way to do this?  We'd really rather Sales Order Lines automatically reserve quantities as the items come into stock.  Any ideas?

Thanks for your reply.  What form or area would I need to use to do that?

you can do it from different locations:

1- Sales order form, line by line for each order

2- from released sales order picking form (inventory and warehouse management)

3- from picking list registration form (inventory and warehouse management)

    just click inventory > reservation.

Okay, thanks.  So there is no batch or auto option for reserving Sales Order lines then?  That would be a customization?  Thanks.

the only option is to set the sales parameters for automatic reservation and the default order to be journal

and once you need to run reservation, use sales update and update or select orders sales orders

or update orders one by one to order type sales order

Ok, thanks for your help.  Looks like we'll reserve things from the Release Sales Order Picking form

Hi Ibrahim, Kindly elaborate on the same for better understanding. Automatic reservation can be done in AX at SO stage? We are having a scenario where in there is one line item of qty 7 in Sales order. we are having stock for the same item of qty 5. So on the Sales order line( which is of qty 7) we have to reserve a qty of 5 from inventory and we need to create a purchase order for the remaining items of qty 2. How to deal this in AX?

    Hi Vineela

It depends how you want to deal with it. You can reserve a quantity that is open on a purchase order to a sales order if you want to. But if you want the items to be reserved automatically by AX to the sales order after the PO is received, you have only two choices that I know of, and both require you to be using advanced warehousing functionality (WMSII or, if you have R3, the 'Warehouse management' module).

    Thanks Terry

But there is one line in SO with qty 7, of which I have to reserve 5 qty from stock and for the remaining 2 I have to create PO. Is it possible in AX?  or Do we need to split the SO lines into 2 lines - one with qty 5 to reserve from stock and another line with qty 2 to create PO? But in our scenario we have to do this without splitting the SO lines.

AX does not require you to create a separate order line. It is possible (even common) for a some quantity on a sales order line to be 'Reserved physical', and some on the same line to be 'On order'.
