Rolling sick leave plans for businesses in ZAF/UK

Posted on by 15

Dear D365 community,

I'm reaching out to ask if you have any suggestion on how to configure rolling leave plans in D365 Talent/HR.

My customer has branches in South Africa and the United Kingdom, and both use rolling sick leave plans. That is to say, a given employee will have 30 days of sick leave per year from the date he is first off sick. If he takes his first five days starting on July first, he will have 25 left. If he takes five more on September first, he will have 20 left. So far so good.

Then he takes no further leave and his balance remains 20, until July of next year. As it has been a year since his original sick leave, he re-gains those five days to take him back up to 25. And when it reaches September first of that new year, he gains the other five days back to take him back to 30.

I am told this is completely normal in these parts of the world but to my shock and horror Dynamics 365 does not seem to feature a good way of configuring leave plans to accommodate this. My initial thought was to set up a leave plan that has an annual grant of 30 days based on an employee specific date, with employees enrolled once they start their sick leave. However, in the scenario above, this would replenish the full grant of 30 on the anniversary of the original sick period but crucially not the days taken in September. In correct configuration, he should remain on 25 until September

Does anyone with experience of rolling leave plans know a config trick that could help this along, or will I have to disappoint my customer with the limited options available through out of the box accrual? It sounds like they may have to manually calculate leave every single time instead.

Eric we manage sick this way and we grant a -366 days for sickness and manage what they are actually getting as paid sick in the payroll system - meaning that all days can be logged as sick

    Hi Eric Chung,

Have you considered setting a yearly cycle to calculate leave? You can try the following:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../hr-leave-and-absence-manage-employee-leave

If this method is not feasible, this may require self-development.

    Best Regards,
