Geofence Workorder Entity - without Account

We would like to use the Geofencing with Workorders, but the account has many different locations.  So we need to use the latitude and longitude from the workorder.

I have attempted to change the Entity Configuration for Account, but everytime it is touched, we get nothing.  No Geofence Events are created

The documentation states this:

Configuration considerations

  • Custom geofences using entities other than accounts and bookable resources are supported.

But I cannot find any documentation on what needs to change to make this happen.

Has anyone successfully done this or has documentation on how to do this?

Any knowledge of the workflows that make this happen would be wonderful.

Thanks

RE: Geofence Workorder Entity - without Account

Geofencing can be a powerful tool for managing work orders and improving the efficiency of field service operations. However, configuring geofencing with work orders can be complex, especially when dealing with multiple locations and custom entities.

To configure geofencing with work orders using custom entities, you will need to make changes to the entity configuration for the entity you want to use as the basis for your geofences. Here are some general steps you can follow:

    1. Determine which entity you want to use as the basis for your geofences. This could be the work order entity or a custom entity you have created for this purpose.

    2. Define the geofence parameters for the entity. This includes specifying the latitude and longitude for the center of the geofence, as well as the radius and any other relevant attributes.

    3. Configure workflows or plugins to create and manage the geofences based on the entity parameters. This may involve creating new custom workflows or modifying existing workflows to incorporate the geofencing functionality.

    4. Test the geofencing functionality to ensure that it is working as expected. This may involve creating test work orders and verifying that geofence events are being created and triggered appropriately.

It is worth noting that configuring geofencing with custom entities can be complex and may require significant expertise in Dynamics 365 configuration and development. You may want to consider working with a Dynamics 365 consultant or developer to help you with this process.

RE: Geofence Workorder Entity - without Account

What you do you mean an account has many different locations? When you select an account on Work Odrer, how does it know which location to use? Or are you using Functional Locations?

To create a custom geofences around the Work Order location:

    1) Create a Geofence Entity Setting for Work Order entity. (When this is created, it will create a Work Order lookup on the Geofence entity.)

    2) Create a Flow/Workflow on New Booking. This Flow/Workflow will create a new Geofence record with Resource + Parent Work Order of the Booking. (Assuming there is only 1 Booking per Work Order.  If there are multiple Bookings per Work Order, then need to come up a logic; so it won't create duplicate Geofences)

    3) Create a Flow/Workflow on Update of Booking. This Flow/Workflow will update the Geofences associated to the Parent Work Order (this is to handle the scenario when Resource is changed on Booking. So it can update the tracking properly)

    4) Create a Push Notification based on Geofence Events. You can use Cloud Flows for this. It has a connector.

    5) Create a Flow/Workflow to delete Geofences when Work Order/Booking are completed.
