Cannot open in excel. SharePoint site server error

Hello experts,

We cannot open in Excel to download a list on any page in Business Central. We are getting an error message saying:

"Could not connect to the SharePoint site. SharePoint Server returned the following error: Could not connect to the following SharePoint site: 'https://mycompanyinc-my.sharepoint.com/'. SharePoint Server returned the following error: 'Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation.'."

Do you know how to fix this? I believe we had BC permissions before. Are there SharePoint issues? I thought all files get stored in OneDrive?

Hi, Don’t you have a Microsoft 365 license?
I'm not sure if it's related, you can try disabling the following option first.
In addition, this may also be a problem caused by customization. It is recommended that you contact your partner directly.

    Thanks.

    Hi

This error occurs when the Business Central–SharePoint/OneDrive connection is broken or permissions are missing. To fix:

âž¡ Check that the user has Edit permissions on the SharePoint/OneDrive site.

âž¡ In BC, go to OneDrive Setup and reconnect if expired.

➡ Confirm the user’s Microsoft 365 license includes SharePoint Online + OneDrive.

âž¡ Ask your admin to grant Admin consent in Azure AD for Business Central.

âž¡ If issue persists, delete and reconfigure the OneDrive connection in BC.

After reconnecting and ensuring permissions, Open in Excel will work again.

    Thanks

    Nimsara

    Hi,

This error usually happens because the OneDrive/SharePoint connection for Business Central is no longer authorized.
    Fix:
    > Go to My Settings > OneDrive Setup in Business Central.
    > Re-run the OneDrive connection wizard and sign in with your Microsoft 365 account.
    > Ensure your user has a valid SharePoint/OneDrive license and access to the company SharePoint site.
    > After reconnecting, try Open in Excel again.

If the issue persists, ask your admin to reauthorize the Business Central app in Azure AD and verify that the SharePoint site URL in BC’s OneDrive Setup matches your tenant.

    Thanks
    Rishabh
