Changing dimension group for Item

I 'm not sure about the effect of changing Dimension group for the selected items.

For example, if Item A use the dimension group, which is require Wareshouse+Location detail.
A month later, we need to add 'Batch' in the dimension group also. Therefore, we create the new dimension group which select in the active box and 'Primary stocking' check box for Warehouse, Location and Batch.

However, I 'm not sure about the transactions before and after changing the dimension group, related to the selected item
that ONLY transactions after change, are required the Batch info. And there is no effect to the transactions before change.

Plus, how to set the configuration set up for the new dimension group...

Thanks for everyone who can contribute the comment and share the knowledge

    Hi,

We had the same issue some years ago. If you make a new dimension group. You can specify to allow blank issue or blank receive. In our case it was on purchase items. For older correction we made it possible for the batchnumber to allow blank issue; but the receipt was always mandatory. The items were automatically used by an project consumption, so this was in this case the best option.

You can also set the dimension 'Batch' to not allow blank postings. For older transactions or corrections you can change this setting to do allow on a specific moment of the day to process older transaction without batchnumber. And then change it back.

Another option is to make a counting journal and set all items concerned to a conversion to batch on counted 0. Post the journal. Then change the items to the new dimension group. Next step: re-enter the inventory with a general batch-id like "conversion".

    good luck!

    Hi,

make a counting journal and set all items concerned to a conversion to batch on counted 0 is a good idea. But i could not understad "re-enter the inventory with a general batch-id like "conversion"." is it possible to describe the way that you do.

    thanks a lot

Microsoft tell you not to do this, the advice they offer is to create a new item number, or rename the exisitng and then transfer the inventory across with the correct dimensions populated. However as stated there are work arounds, you just need to test them for your requirement.

I think what André means by "re-enter the inventory with a general batch-id like "conversion"." is that when you want to add the items back to inventory, it will require a batch ID. However, since you may not have/need the batch ID for all items previously on hand, you can enter "Conversion" or "01" or "old items" or anything as their batch number.
