Can't Start the Production Order with Partial Material Availability Using WMS system

Hi,

We have a problem here that we can't start the production order without having all the items available in the inventory.

We are using WMS and we want to start the production orders when partial material is available. After start, if we want to close any work in WMS, when we reach to the final Put step, we get the following error and can't proceed further:

"Quantity XX cannot be picked because inventory transactions with status On order, Reserved ordered or Reserved physical are insufficient."

We thought the problem is when we start the Production Order, Pick List will be generated in which each line item required a reference to the location from the work. But when the item is not yet available (work is not closed), location for those items are empty in the pick list lines and that is the reason of this error.??

Since in our most of cases we have to start the Production with partial available material, Our final conclusion was to not start the  production order and keep them in released status until we receive all the material. And when the production order is actually finished, we process Start, report as finished & end at the same time.

I really have a doubt if this is the right solution, does anyone know how we can start the production order with partial available material without getting this error in WMS?

Thanks,

Hasti

    Dear Faheem,

Thanks for the link, it is very good. However, it doesn't explain anything about starting the production order after partial picking.

    Hi

I am just quoting from artical i share

Picking an Exact Quantity versus a Pallet Quantity for a Palletized Item. The approach differs between AX 2012 R3 CU10 and CU9. With CU10 (and also the new Dynamics AX), an item-specific policy determines whether the quantity picked should reflect the required quantity or the item’s pallet quantity. In contrast, the CU9 approach differentiated these two options based on a location-specific policy. That is, picking a component item from a license plate controlled location resulted in pallet quantities, whereas an exact quantity could only be picked from a non-LP location. An illustrative example involves the production of a physical batch of refrigerated cookie dough, where the ingredients include sugar and flour (delivered in pallet quantities) and a specialty ingredient (measured and delivered in an exact quantity for the batch). An item-specific policy makes the most sense in this scenario.

so it all depend on how your  AX is setup. You can specify the whole production order quantity or a partial quantity. You can also enter a negative quantity to reverse a quantity that is already started.

    Dear Crispin,

It means in AX we can't start any production order with partial available material? Sometimes we need a small part which is not critical and we can install it even in the last stage of production. In these cases, we have to start the Production even without having that part at the beginning stage. So you mean AX doesn't have this capability to start the production order with partial available material?

    Thanks Crispin.

It means only with customization it will be possible.

    Hello Hasti

you can try use field operation in BOM or Formula. Material who is needed assign to first operation and when you started production start only first operation.
