I wish to create Planned Production and Purchase orders from Sales demand using the Planning Worksheet.
I only want the Production orders to be promoted to Firm Planned when the related materials come in (there is enough material to satisfy the production order).
How will the production planner know when to do this (there needs to be some sort of trigger- perhaps at goods in) ?

If you search for the "Prod. Order - Shortage List" report i think this will do the trick for you,
If shows the stock availability on a per order basis, with the ability to filter on production order status, after reviewing this report your planner could then run the change status
