Event passes

Hi all,

Event passes are not supported in Customer Insights - Journeys Event Management, according to https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customer-insights/journeys/set-up-event#set-up-event-passes and it is not mentioned in the transition function overview either. Does anybody know if we're able to use event passes when Outbound Marketing is shut down?
I have the same question (0)

    Hi all,

same here. We rely on the Event passes, as they where the best way to implement prices for our Events (which are trainings you can book and have to pay for, instead of sales-events). So Pricing and the use of passes is absolutely necessary for us.

    1) Are there any information about when passes will be useable again or when they will be maybe available in a new entity/functionality?
    2) If not, we can of course just put a custom subgrid on the form, but for this, we need to know, if the entity will remain usable (read and write) after shutdown of outbound-marketing. Any information on that?

Basically the remove of passes from the event-form gives the impression that there is no pricing-functionality in real-time actually. What is best way actually to get prices attached to events?

    Regards
    Thomas

    Hello GA-29081119-0,

You've accurately pointed out the critical detail: event passes are not supported in Customer Insights - Journeys (CI-J) Event Management.

Let's address your core question: Will we be able to use event passes when Outbound Marketing is shut down?
The Answer: No, you will not be able to use event passes in the same way you did in Outbound Marketing when it's shut down.
    Here's why:
    1. CI-J's Different Approach:
      • CI-J Event Management is a fundamentally different system than Outbound Marketing's.
      • Microsoft has not simply ported Outbound Marketing's features to CI-J. They've redesigned the event management experience with a focus on real-time customer journeys and interactions.
    2. Explicit Documentation:
      • The Microsoft documentation you linked clearly states that event passes are not supported in CI-J.
      • This is a definitive indication that the feature is not available in the new event management model.
    3. Deprecation of Outbound Marketing:
      • When Outbound Marketing is fully deprecated, its features, including event passes, will no longer be accessible.
      • CI-J will be the sole event management solution within Dynamics 365 Customer Insights.

Implications and What You Need to Do:
    • Plan Your Migration:
      • You must plan your migration strategy without relying on event passes.
      • This will likely involve rethinking how you manage event access control and pricing.
    • Develop Workarounds:
      • Explore alternative ways to represent pass-related data in CI-J.
      • Consider using custom entities, fields, or segments to achieve similar functionality.
    • Communicate with Microsoft:
      • Provide feedback to Microsoft about the importance of event passes for your business.
      • Advocate for the inclusion of similar functionality in future CI-J updates.
    • Evaluate Alternatives:
      • If CI-J's event management capabilities don't meet your needs, consider evaluating third-party event management solutions that integrate with Dynamics 365.

    Possible Alternatives to Consider (Workarounds):
    • Segments:
      • Use segments to define different audience groups based on event access or pricing.
      • Use these segments in customer journeys to control event-related communications and actions.
    • Custom Fields:
      • Add custom fields to the event registration entity to store pass-related information.
    • Custom Entities:
      • Create custom entities to represent passes or pricing tiers.
      • Use relationships to link these entities to event registrations.
    • Power Automate:
      • Use Power Automate to automate pass-related processes, such as generating access codes or sending personalized communications.

    In summary:
You will not be able to use event passes in CI-J after Outbound Marketing is shut down. You must plan your migration accordingly and develop alternative solutions to manage event access and pricing.
