Hi all,
Previously, there is a limitation in F&O regarding Power BI Embed that is, it's just didn't support Row Level Security which we setup in Power BI. Has this limitation still or now we already have solution for it ?
If not, what is the workaround to hide some data in Power BI Report Embed ?
Thanks,
Hi Tony zhong,
Is there any specific reason to hide them?
I can see there are 02 ways as follows:
1. On some of the standard embedded PowerBI dashboards, Now Microsoft has given the provision to Edit Analytics to hide/disable data KPI's. For example Acounts Payable >> Vendor Payment.
OR
2. Personalizing the workspaces could be an another option or work around solution.
Hi Junaid,
Same reason as security in F&O it self, some data that only viewable to some user role only.
Last time (or last year), I need to removed all the Roles set in Power BI report, because it makes the report returned error while viewing from F&O workspace. So it is means to say, we are still need to doing that ?
Edit Analytics seems a bit "manual" in my opinion, isn't it ?
And if a person doesn't allow to see certain column (field) in F&O table, but this fields is included in some visual on that Power BI report, will this person able to see it then ?
Yes he will be able to see that information in Power BI Because Power BI security is totally different than D365 screen/report level security.
Yes you have to apply the same security setting in Power BI report but i will not suggest that because as you know data cubes and entity associated with Power BI are super sensitive that's why you were getting errors.
Did you think about creating a new report on Power BI as per your business user need instead of modifying the existing one?
Hi Tony,
My knowledge is that row level security in the embedded power bi workspaces is still not supported.
If you don't want that specific people can see all your data you can restrict the access to the workspace by standard security features in F&O. However, this results in a situation where people that should not have access to 'sensitive' data cannot access the workspace at all.
An alternative is creating a fresh and completely new PowerBI report outside of F&O where you can apply the standard PowerBI security and restrict the access to specific data as needed. This restriction in PowerBI necessitates a separate security configuration in PowerBI.
Best regards,
Ludwig
Hi Ludwig,
Noted, in the 2nd paragraph of yours is sync with what Junaid mentioned, so each workspace contain specific Power BI report, right?
And the 3rd paragraph is when you're "attach" Power BI report from Power BI Services, isn't it ? so it is not the one with the PBIX as F&O resources and uploaded in LCS. May I ask, if we attach from Power BI Services, can we utilize the "drill through" so that click one visual in PowerBI can open D365 F&O form ?
Yes Tony, Each workspace has respective PowerBI reports.
Did you get the chance to see the below MS docs; it has all the details that you are looking for.
