Transaction Description missing from Inquiry window

Hi, I recently upgraded GP10 to GP2013. One of the user found that the transaction description in the inquiry window - Transaction by Vendor is missing/blank. The transactions were posted from the receiving transaction entry. Previously in GP10, the transaction description would show the reference entered or default as "Receivings Transaction Entry". So the question I have is why in GP10 the transaction description is shown but in G2013 it is blank/missing? What can I do to get back the transaction description for current and future transactions?

    No option available for entering transaction description in "Receiving Transaction Entry" window(Transactions-->Purchasing-->Receiving Transaction Entry) in GP 10. I have also tried to posted some transactions in GP 10 and the default description also not showing on the inquiry window.

    I guess transaction description field will be blank for the transactions originated from Receiving Transaction Entry. Please check this on your GP 10.

    Hi Soma, My GP 10 version 10.00.1301. I have test by entering a receiving transaction entry and then check in the distribution entry to make sure the reference field is showing "Receiving Transaction Entry". After I have posted the transaction, I was able to see transaction description field showing "Receiving Transaction Entry". Also I did the same testing on GP2010 version 11.00.1752 and the result is same as above. Therefore, why is it that GP10 and GP2010 is able to display the transaction description but not GP2013. Appreciate your reply on this. Thanks.

    Henry,

    Above you have mentioned Distribution Reference is Showing as default "Receiving Transaction Entry" for the transaction posted before and after from the window Receiving Transaction Entry in GP 10 and GP2010.

    But you have mentioned in your question is Transaction Description not showing after posted from the window Receiving Transaction Entry. Transaction Description and Reference both are not same.

    Now I am clear about your question. Did you mentioned the below field? If yes,hope I will update you shortly about how to resolve this.

    Hi Soma,

    Yes, the field I was referring is the "Reference" field in distribution entry window. The "Reference" field can be change instead of the default "Receiving Transaction Entry".

    By posting the Receiving Transaction and inquiring the transaction in the Payables Transaction Inquiry - Vendor, the "Transaction Description" should show "Receiving Transaction Entry" or the description that was change to.

    However in GP2013, it is blank. But in GP10 and GP2010, it was able to show.

    But, In GP 10 the transaction description is showing as blank in the Transaction by Vendor Description field(See my first screenshot in my previous post). If we open that document in inquiry window and click the distribution window it is showing the Reference (see second screen shot in my previous post).

    I don't think, the Reference from distribution window values will showing to the "Transaction Description" in Transaction by Vendor Inquiry window.

    I have tried this on many times in GP 10 and GP 2013. The Reference from Receiving Transaction Entry is showing to Transaction Description on Transaction by Vendor Inquiry window in GP 2013 but not showing on GP 10.

    Looking from the receiving transaction entry - distribution entry "Reference" field which I changed to "TEST".

    After posting, you will able to see that it is shown in the transaction description in the inquiry window.

    While creating this transaction, I have noticed one point. Here(In GP 10), I don't have registered Project Accounting Module. So, the Reference from Receiving Transaction Entry will not updated to Transaction Description field in Vendor Transaction Inquiry window. But, In GP 2013 I have registered the Project Accounting Module and also selected the modified forms (PO and Receiving transaction entry to Project Accounting)in Alternate/Modified Forms and Report widow. In this environment (In GP 2013), the Reference from Receiving Transaction Entry will be updated to Transaction Description field in Vendor Transaction Inquiry window.

    Based on your screen shot, you also have registered the Project Accounting in GP 10. Please check this(Project Accounting Registration and Modified Forms) on GP 2013 machine. I don't have Project Accounting licence for GP 10. That's why I couldn't check this on my GP 10 environment.

    Henry,

    I have found the solution for this issue.

    After unregistered Project Accounting in GP 2013. The Reference from Receiving Transaction Entry will not updated to Transaction Description field in Vendor Transaction Inquiry window. Again registered Project Accounting in GP 2013 the reference value updated to Transaction Description.

    So, surely this is related to Project Accounting. Please register PA in GP 2013 and check again.

    Hi Soma,

    I have checked in GP2013 and found that Project Accounting was not register. Where as GP10, PA was register.

    Will check on the PA register.
