Searches for this info give lots of results, but not what I am looking for:
What is the longest that a GP company database name can be? (used to be 5 chars, but I thought this changed)
What is the longest that a GP system database name can be? (used to be DYNAMICS, now can be different but how long can the name be?)

The company database is definitely 5 characters as that is all Utilities will allow to enter, for the ID, not the name. (i.e. TWO vs Fabrikam, Inc.)
For the system database, my understanding is that it allows up to a length of ten characters and so long as it conforms to SQL Server's naming requirements, ie...no special characters and doesn't start with a number.
