Has margin calculations changed in PSA V3?

We recently upgraded from PSA 2.4 to PSA 3, currently on 3.10.6.34.

In the old version I'm sure margins on PSA quotes took into account costs on related product quote lines, as well as with project quote lines.  We use this to track and pay commissions for sales people so it's important.  But it seems that is not the case with the new version.  Here is an example:

margin-does-not-include-product-costs.png

As you can see the margin is showing as 94.59%, which only takes into account services cost of $12,542.92.  However there are 18 product line items attached to this quote and none of those costs are reflected in this margin.

Thoughts?

Well, it seems something wasn't enabled at the back end because now this calculation is mysteriously working again....no word as to why but it is so we move on.

Thanks Matthew, however I tested this on an old 2.4 instance we still have hanging around and it does take into account product line costs as I thought.  There has definitely been a change in PSA V3, and it makes absolutely no sense to me.  Unfortunately we're finding that Microsoft has done this on several fronts (for example work-based quotes can no longer be revised) and all we get when we log calls is reference to generic statements in documentation.  Hopefully the new Project Service solution will address these weaknesses or we will have to consider moving on to another solution, or back to our home grown SharePoint based one.

    Hi Alister,

I think that this has not changed but I may be wrong too.

I just looked at the article from 2017 that is talking about quote profitability calcuations in vers. 2.x here: neilparkhurst.com/.../.

I believe that the cost only takes into account services and expenses.

I think that the source data for the calculation are quote line details.

You may consider creating these products as expenses.

    Kind regards

    Matthew
