CRM 2016 - Adding a custom link to top bar next to search

I'm extremely new to CRM 2016 and I'm looking to see if this is even possible.  Are you able to modify the very top nav bar area (search box, buttons, etc.) to add a custom button/link?  I see it might be possible by modifying main.aspx and its corresponding navbar file but that doesn't seem best practice - updates reverting the change.

Picture for reference on where I'd like to add the new button/link.

Thanks.

    Hello,

I don't think this is doable in CRM 2016. Possibility to add there buttons in supported way appeared in CRM 9.0 and in UCI interface only - develop1.net/.../Adding-Global-Command-Buttons-to-the-Unified-Interface-
