GP 18.3 Fixed Assets - changing Calendar for Assets

Hello,

We have a customer that has changed their fiscal year from calendar to fiscal now.

So for 2021 they want a short year 1/1/21 - 9/30/21 for the Fixed Asset Corporate Book.

I have added a FISCAL calendar to Fixed assets, but when i go to the corporate Book setup it does not allow me to change the Calendar ID there. How can I get fixed assets updated for the new fiscal period?

    Hi Sheila,

I would suggest to run depreciation through 9/30/21, and then make the changes to the company calendar first in GP, and then rebuild the FA calendar.   This blog has an example of going from fiscal to calendar, but same concept:

    I hope that helps.

The question is HOW can i change the calendar for the Company Book.  The calendar ID is greyed out in the Book setup.

I can build the Fiscal Calendar ID, and they also want a Calendar year Calendar ID for the Tax book.  So we have updated the Fiscal Periods in Company setups, and then i built a FISCAL calendar ID to match fiscal periods. But now we need to switch the Corporate Book to use the new FISCAL calendar ID and that is where we are stuck.

    Hi Sheila,

You cannot change the calendar ID on a Book once it has been used.  You can only change the FA calendar for periods going forward only and need to have the same dates on historical years, or else you will cause data damage when doing a 'reset life' if the historical years are not the same as before.  Therefore, this field was locked down so you cannot change it, forcing you to update the same FA calendar ID for the periods going forward only, as illustrated in the blog article (on how to change from calendar to fiscal, or vice versa).

If you set up a brand new calendar ID, then you would have to create a brand new book and assign that, but the historical periods on that calendar should match the other calendar ID as well, so may as well just keep using the same calendar ID on this book.

    Hope that helps!
