String was not recognised as a valid Boolean

Posted on by 215

One of my users has come across an issue whereby the error "String was not recognised as a valid Boolean" pops up when she tries to move an Opportunity through the BPF. I've tried investigating it myself but I can't seem to find the cause of the issue. I'm not even sure what can cause this sort of error - is it something inherently in the BPF, or could it be any one of the fields? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is the error detail:

RE: String was not recognised as a valid Boolean

I ended up logging a ticket with Microsoft and it turned out one of my workflows had got corrupted somehow, so they fixed it for me. Thanks for the advice though, it will help with this sort of error in future!

To add to the previous post, it's worth checking the Plug-in trace log (make sure the System Settings are set to log errors - it's under the Customization tab of the System Settings). If there's an error there, then this indicates it's a server-side error (e.g. from a plugin or workflow), whereas if nothing is logged, then it's more likely a client-side error (e.g. some java script)

    Hello Charlotte,

Thanks for using the Microsoft Dynamics CRM community Forums.

As you mentioned, this BPF is at the Opportunity entity, and regarding the stack trace, it looks like it's referring to an issue, during updating/saving/changing the record.

Also the error message, related to a "Boolean", it could be related to an issue during some validation of OptionsSets (like simple yes/no optionset fields)

Are you triggering at your BPF any custom on-demand processes, which are trying to update the record, before all mandatory fields are filled (like option sets)?

Further, please check, if you have custom workflows, which gets triggered during the update or any change of the Opportunity. Do you have custom workflows for the Opportunity entity, which are getting triggered by any change of Optionset-fields?

Or do you have also custom Plugins, which getting triggered during updating the Opportunity entity?

If so, you can only check step by step to deactivate the processes/plugins, to find the causing process.

From there, you need to check for valid conditions inside this.

I hope this helps, to identify the causing component :-)

Just let me know and reply, if you found some similar processes and you identified the one and provide the causing condition (screenshot?), i you need further help with this.

Thank you very much and have a nice day.

    Best regard

    Daniel
