Social Listening Questions, Post Acquisition Speed, Post Retention.

Hi,

I have been using the Social Listening Trial and have a few questions.  Some seem quite obvious so the lack of  online information may mean I am thinking about it the wrong way.

A. Post Acquisition Speed - The tool seems very slow, hours and hours to pull back 10 or 15 posts, when it suggests there could be thousands.  Is this normal?  I have read about different sources but could it be because its the trial version?  A client is comparing it to Watson which pulls upwards of 50,000 in a couple hours.

B. Post Acquisition Time Ranges:

     1. How Often do the rule acquire new posts?  Is it at a certain time of day or running constantly.

     2. How far back does a search look?  All posts ever made on a topic or it there a limit to the age range of posts?

     3. How long are posts retained?  Indefinitely?

Thanks in advance for any answers or directions!

Callum

    Hi

The suggestions you get about the number of posts the tool will pull are based on the the last 30 days, but we are only pulling new posts made after you have setup searches. The acquisition speed and the amount of posts are not different in the trial version, nevertheless you have a monthly post limit in the basic subscription of 10k posts. Once those 10k are reached we will stop pulling new posts for you until the next month. The acquisition speed depends mainly on the different sources, while posts from Twitter are generally very fast, e.g. aquired in MSE below 5 minutes after publication, other sources can take up to some hours.

Regarding your specific questions under point B).

    1. We are constantly checking if there are new posts available on some sources, such as Twitter, on other sources the interval can be up to some hours.

    2. Generally we are not providing historical data. For some sources, you will get a few posts back to before you setup your searches, but that's not the general rule. So the limit is basically to acquiring posts made after you have configured your searches in MSE.

    3. Posts are retained 24 months currently.

Let me know if you have additional questions, and I will try to answer them.

    Best regards

    Philippe

Thank you Phillipe for your response, I found it very helpful in answering my questions.  The main point is that it only grabs new posts, that explains why it took a while to acquire posts.

    Callum,

If you need to retain the posts for larger periods of time you could use the D365 connection and storage outside MSE
