Error when posting Travel Expense Report

I am trying to post an expense report in AX 2012 R3 and have gotten an error at the time of posting:  "Function DimensionDefaultingEngine::createLedgerDimensionServer has been incorrectly called." This is an intercompany expense report in an AX Contoso demo environment.  The employee is hired by USMF and is active.  The expense report is trying to post to USRT.  There are valid intercompany relations created in the GL intercompany accounting config between USMF and USRT, so I don't see that as the problem.  I don't know what is causing this and what I need to do to get this transaction to post.

Background:  This error happened after I created a vendor for the employee Tim Litton, and vendor group 60 for employee vendors.  I gave the vendor a default Terms of Payment value and Method of Payment.  I created the vendor after receiving an error "Employee 000027 is not found" and I realized there was no link between the employee and a vendor.

Any ideas?
