What is status field in License iNformation--Access License

HI,

Greetings.Hope all are fine

I am using Ax 2012 and wanted to know few questions

How can i determine how many of total users are currently using the ax license loaded in system?

I was accessig the License informaton -tab-Access license-Status represent what?

Also i am running the Named License count report.Even though i give the date as of today it takes last year date and also the assigned users are more than the licensed key count

Can anyone explain me more on the above questions.

Please help

    The Status field in License information - Access license tells you how many licenses you have purchased.

    There's no hard license enforcement in the system (instead it's controlled by audits), so it's possible that you have more users than licenses.

    The Named user license count report can be used to determine how many licenses you need to have.

    When using that report, be sure that you have Named user license counts report processing batch job enabled. It will store the actual info about users and required licenses each time it runs. If it's not running, the report can't show correct information.

    HI, Thank u so much for the quick reply. Can u please tell me how can i run the batch job. I tried running it but it gives me error that "batch task u craeted is not valid". I am giving the class name-SysUserLicenseMiner". The report also shows the date as 2018 whereas i m running the report as of today. Am i missing something. I wrote a job as  SysuserLicenseminer::createbacthjob but it desnt get  created in batch jobs. Am i missing something. Also could u please tell me how can i figure at the moment how many users are using the license??

    Normally the batch job should be automatically created when you set up a new system.

    But actually it seems that after AX2012 R3 CU9 the batch job was replaced by a different functionality: cloudblogs.microsoft.com/.../

    Perhaps you can try to check that blog and see if it helps you run the report succesfully.

    Most likely you see year 2018 in the report because there's no newer data collected - so the data that was collected in 2018 is still "valid" today.

    Thank you so much Nikolaos for ur time.Really appreciate ur support and quick help on this. I was able to generate the report. Just last question, the client procured license early for say 200 users. Now the users left in organization is just 40. Can we reduce the license cost for just this 40 users?

    If you have 40 users you only need 40 licenses. But the details depend on what kind of contract was used to purchase the licenses.

    thank u for the reply. The client is planing to reduce the cost of Ax license. The report"named report processing for licnese" only shows the count. How can i figure out whihc user has functinonal license assigned and which user has Self serve one. is that a way to give that list of users from Ax. Also how to determine how many concurrent users max a license can be assigned to

    Hi,

    the Named user license count report should show the required license for each user. You need a license for each user, multiple users can't use same license.

    "This report contains information about the users who are assigned to security roles in Microsoft Dynamics AX. The report analyzes the roles and privileges that are assigned to each user and then calculates the number of licenses that are required for each user type."

    Hi,If the users left the organziation, should i delete those users or if I disable them in Ax, will they consume license?

    Out of 10 users-5 using enterprize users have left the orgaznaition. They are not disbaled in Ax. Should I disable or just remove the roles to avoid the licnese consumption?

    Ok I also have one user who is now Enterprize license user but need to just assign in Self serve?I need to play with rolesHow to determine or separate the Enterprize from Self Serve CAL

    Yes, you should disable those users. If there are any batch jobs that run under the ID of such user, you must re-setup those jobs using another account.

    "How to determine or separate the Enterprise from Self Serve CAL"? You can install and use Security Development Tool to see the license requirement for each role.
