    Hi,

You could copy the prod instance to a Sandbox instance. After the copy operation , the target instance will be deleted and replaced with a copy of the data and customizations from the source instance. You won’t be able to recover any deleted data.

In addition , to ensure the newly created copy (target) instance does not impact your production instance, once the copy operation is complete, two things happen:

    1. The newly created copy instance is placed in administration mode. Only those with Dynamics 365 System Administrator or System Customizer security roles can sign in and manage the copy instance. Regular Dynamics 365 users cannot sign in and use the copy instance.

    2. Background operations are disabled in the copy instance. Disabled operations include workflows and synchronization with Microsoft Exchange.

You should also review the status of application components in the copy instance with external connections such as Yammer, email, plug-ins, custom workflow activities, etc. Review these and consider what action to take.

More details could be referred to the following D365 official Instance copy article:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../copy-instance

    Hope it helps.

    Regards,

    Johnny

You'll be replacing the test instance, so anything you have there will be gone.. Might not be an issue, although, sometimes you may have configuration data which has to be different between two instances. Or you may have some third-party solutions which are using instance name for licensing. That's the kind of things that may get broken.
